In the figure painting entitled American Indian, the human figure commands the foreground and our attention. He stands erect, with great confidence, yet his clothes seem dishevelled, maybe long worn. A mysterious figure walks away in the near distance, and a strange creature also peers out at us from behind him. The rest of the painting seems to contain hints of fields or buildings. Like so much of this artist's work, the viewer is called upon to probe the meaning of Indian existence in our world through the artist's unique way of seeing. One can never tire of a painting that keeps asking us to look with clean eyes at what we normally take for granted. Measures 72 x 54 inches.
