"Mexican Beach" is a rendering of the beach where the artist walked each day to observe the whales that came within 15 to 20 feet of the shore. A steeply sloped beach, the whales are able to come in close to feed and rub off on the sandy slope the parasites that cling to them. The odd form of the distant outcropping, typical around the beaches in this part of southern Baja, is exaggerated to express its oddity even more. The painting measures 31" x 41" and is acrylic on canvas. It was painted in Todos Santos, Mexico, in the winter of 2007. |
